Does anyone else think that obtaining New Careers is too tough and stressful? For the past few months I have been rather stressed and frustrated. Why? Well it’s because I’ve recently been thinking of Career Ideas and have decided on starting up a self employed position in online marketing. The issue is, with countless bills to pay the change over from my current job isn’t easy, so for the short term I’m working two jobs and have next to no free time, and it appears it will remain this way for rather a while until I can get plenty clients up and running. So how did I end up in such a state? For anyone interested enough to continue reading, I’ll explain how.

My problems began while employed at a call centre, offering support for a digital television service. The role was terrible, the company was awful to work for and the management all had their pet favourites, leaving the other staff with the rough end of the stick. As far as Careers go, this wouldn’t even be thought of as one, I can’t see many people staying in a role like that. Things just kept getting worse there and I ended up losing my position there, the most worrying part was, I had fairly recently gotten a new car on finance and had a trip to the Canary Islands coming up in 1 month time.

So as you can probably tell, me and my fiancé were not doing too well for money and I noticed my stress levels rising. Discovering New Careers while in recession was not an easy task, but I eventually found a position in online marketing. The job was perfect and just the thing I had been looking for, but more problems ahead, there was initial training required. This was going to hold-up my ability to earn money and even after completing the training, money wouldn’t come in straight away, it takes a while to get results with a client. I was forced to revisit the job hunt, not for New Careers, I wasn’t going to let this chance go. No, the job search was for something temporary to earn some money in the mean time.

So I finally located another call centre position, not difficult considering there is numerous ones out there. However, that “mean time” is taking longer than anticipated. Six months on and I’m still in the call centre as there’s just not nearly enough time in the day to cope with two jobs. Whoever said 8 hour working days was a bright idea surely didn’t work them himself. My Career Ideas haven’t changed yet, I’m determined to make the online marketing job succeed, it’s just hard not having any spare time and not having any money because of the debts that piled up while out of work.

If there’s any tips to take in from this story, it should be to be strong with your finances and don’t give up on your Careers if you discover something you truly want to do. I know it can be easy sometimes to just take out credit for a new television, a holiday or a car, but anywhere you can, try to save up instead. It’s always wise to have as little debt as possible as you can never predict when the worst will happen.
