The Reasons I Want To Work From Home In A Self Employed Position The Arguments For And Against
Self employed Careers are rather common in our time, countless people choose to build their own businesses and pass them on through the family. On the other hand, a group of Careers that in spite of new technology and the internet, still isn’t too common is those employed from home. People and businesses can argue two totally conflicting opinions as to why you should or shouldn’t work from home, both sides have some extremely good and valid points to put forward. Personally, I have looked at Career ideas for working from home and have chosen to try my luck at a self employed, home working position. I have several reasons for choosing this, but still share some views as to why it isn’t always a clever idea. Here are a few of my views.
The initial thing that attracted me to both self employed Careers and working from home, is the hours you can put in. No doubt your salary is greatly effected by the amount of work you dedicate, but I mainly liked the idea of being able to laze in bed in a morning or decide my days off. It also means that when I’m in a lazy mood, I can split the day up, maybe doing a couple hours in the morning, go for a break and then finish the work in the afternoon. The freedom was the key thing I was browsing for and as a massive extra for me, once efficient at the work, unlike a standard job, if you finish the work without delay, you’d be done for the day, no sitting about in an office carrying on someone else’s work. If I end up good at the work, I could cut my 8 hour day into maybe 5 or 6 hours, I have never been a fan of an 8 hour working day as I believe it is too demanding and leaves you with almost no free time, so this is a big bonus for me.
Certainly working from home isn’t devoid of its downsides and for everyone considering these Career ideas I would advise that they genuinely consider the following. When starting these New careers, ask yourself, do you have the willpower to do the work unsupervised? To be entirely honest, I struggle a lot with this, as there are distractions everywhere in the home. Subconsciously I realise that I’m not being made to do work, it’s not like a normal job where you have to stay there 8 solid hours and can only go after that time, I have the freedom to do whatever I desire. It is incredibly easy to simply launch my web browser and waste an hour on the internet, by which time I am not in the frame of mind to work and the day ends up a waste of time. That equates to money lost and is the biggest killer of home employment. If you want to try these Careers, you want a strong will and ideally a quiet place where you can cut yourself off from any disturbances.
There are plenty other reasons why I chose working from home, such as the pleasant, comfy and quiet workspace and having the option to put together a proper lunch, but there is too much to specify here and it’s more fitting that you think about your own ups and downs before taking on these New careers.
