The economic conditions at the moment is throwing up very tricky trading conditions for the large majority of companies who all need to consider how to reduce spending if they are to keep their profit levels. The situation in some service industries is so terrible that some organisations are even fighting to remain in business altogether.

Of course there are lots of things to take into account when trying to reduce costs. Cost savings can be made in manufacturing areas, in procurement and in staff numbers all with good results. Nevertheless after all the usual segments of your business have been picked through and you would ideally like more savings is there any other option? One idea is to think about the cost of your building or office space. Presumably you have already analysed your staff numbers and reduced the numbers down to the lowest necessary to carry out the necessary duties, but you could also think about having them working from home thus lowering your demand for office space and the rent that goes with that.

Clearly working from home will not be ideal for every role and definitely not every member of your team, but if you can reduce the size of office space you need by merely getting some high tech IT kit you could soon find your spend has saved you significant costs. Consider which tasks would work if carried out off site (bear in mind even customer service roles can work at home for some savvy firms) and therefore how much space that would save you. Then take into account if you can lower the amount of space you rent and the figures should speak for themselves.

Even if some of your staff are not able to go down this route you should be able to find other, responsive new team employees who are willing to take this path as it can offer a great solution for valuable, knowledgable personnel who want to work at home and do not get satisfaction from carrying out online surveys for money day in day out.
