Working at home is now much more popular as it frees up extra money and time for the employee and keeps overheads down for the organisation. So as more and more people actually become home workers what should employers be looking out for by way of impending issues.

The first issue that most people come up with when considering the problems of working from home is that the individual may, without anyone knowing, not put in a full day or might simply not be working as productively as possible. This of course would be cause for concern and it can easily be monitored by asking for productivity information each day. However, unexpectedly this is not the issue that causes the most problems in reality. Those people working at home often have a very high rate of productivity and care needs to be taken that they are actually having the right number of breaks and time out.

Another situation to watch out for is loss of inspiration. It is much easier for an individual who is cut off at home to get into a rut, In particular if the breaks are not used. One way to stop this is to make sure that proper meetings are planned and that small enough objectives are set. If someone is working towards a very large target that will take months to complete, it is much easier for them to become dispirited. It is much better to split up the objectives into easier to achieve segments so that the home worker can identify that progress is being made.

Finally, home workers who are carrying out a more demanding role than merely blogging or completing online surveys for money are more likely to lose sight of their goal. Sitting by oneself, thinking about your workload without any other contribution can mean that they go off at a tangent. Make sure you speak regularly to each home worker and give them exact, measurable and time bound goals to keep them on the right tracks.
