Work At Home And Fitting In Those Household Projects That Otherwise Don’t Get Done
I have been meaning to decorate my dining room at home for a few weeks now and because I work from home I am intending to organise my diary this week to enable me to complete this job in between my routine work from home tasks.
Decorating jobs are best completed during good light. Artificial light is perfectly reasonable for winding down in, watching TV etc, however is not really adequate for accurate operations such as painting skirting board edges or accurately trimming wallpaper. For that reason postponing the decorating task to late in the day, after the work is finished, is not a good option.
I need to ensure though that I get all my important work from home tasks out of the way first. I plan to get up rather earlier than I usually do and make certain I am in my office as early as I can. I undertake lots of online jobs, mainly writing, so I can carry these out whenever. When these important duties are completed I intend to alternate my activity for the rest of the day between my work tasks and my decorating. That way I am introducing variety into my work from home routine, it might provide a pleasant change and help the day to go by more pleasantly.
The idea is to have all tasks completed by tea time, so none of this will eat into my relax time during the evening.
One problem might be taking phone calls. I will use my hands free headset and accept calls whilst working because it’s not difficult to break off most decorating tasks. However for some tasks, for example painting, I will have to use my voice mail and pretend I am out.
Work from home allows great flexibility to work in this way and so long as you organise things to be sure all your important tasks are done first it provides a brilliant way of getting even quite large home jobs out of the way without encroaching too much on leisure time.
